Things to do in Seattle
So, are you heading to Worlds in Seattle this August? If you are, great! You will like it up here in the northwest. Seattle is a great city and there's a lot of stuff you can do there. Hopefully in this article I cover a lot of places to visit.
When you think of Seattle, you think of the Space Needle, right? The Space Needle is located in the Seattle Center. The Seattle Center is also home to other great attractions. Here is a run-down of things you can do at the Seattle Center:
Space Needle - You can go to the top of the Space Needle and check out all the sights of Seattle and the surrounding area. To get to the observation deck, it will cost $12 for adults, $7 for youth (11-17), and $5 for kids (4-10). Children age 3 and under are free. For more info on the Space Needle, go here:
Pacific Science Center - The Pacific Science Center can be a lot of fun. There are many different hands-on exhibits and there is even an IMAX theater. There are 2 price plans for the Science Center. There is regular admission and admission with an IMAX feature. Regular admission costs $12.50 for adults (14-64) and $10 for juniors (3-13). Experience Music Project - If you like music, you will want to go here. The EMP is a huge music museum with different exhibits that includes an area where you can learn to play different instruments. To get into the EMP, it will cost $19.95 for Adults (18-64), $15.95 for Youth (13-17 with ID), and $14.95 for Children (ages 7-12). Children 6 and under are free. The Center House - The Center House is a pretty cool place. It is filled with different restaurants. On some weekends, there will even be events going on inside. Make sure to check it out if you are at the Seattle Center.
Seattle Center Monorail Station - You can take the monorail from the Seattle Center to Westlake Center Mall. It's a cool way to go back and forth between these two places. Round Trip tickets cost $2.50 for adults and $1 for youth (5-12). Children under 4 are free. For more info on the Monorail, head on over here: http://www.seattlemonorail.com/
There are other attractions at the Seattle Center like the Fun Forest and the Children's Museum. For more info on the Seattle Center, go here:
As I said, the Monorail runs between the Seattle Center and Westlake Center. So why don't we talk about Westalke Center and other places downtown. Downtown there are a lot of different stores and shopping centers you can go to. Here is a list of different places to check out:
Westlake Center Mall - Westlake is a pretty good sized mall. A lot of different shops to check out. Outside of Westlake you will also find stores near by like Nordstrom, the Bon, Old Navy, and a few more.
Pacific Place - This is a shopping center with really expensive stores. I don't think I have ever bought anything there... But, it can be a nice place to look around.
FAO Schwartz - I think we all know what store this is. ;-) A HUGE toy store. If you go, make sure to check out the big piano bridge.
Nike Town - If you need a new pair of shoes, check this place out. Not much to say about a shoe store.... It is multi-level and a good place to visit if you want some Nike shoes. ;-) For more info on NikeTown, go here: http://www.niketown.com/
Gameworks - Gameworks is a huge arcade in Seattle. A lot of cool games to play. I believe there is even a game that your chair rises - but as soon as you lose, you go for a fall. Fun place. For more info on GameWorks, go here: http://www.gameworks.com
There are other cool places in downtown, but those are some of the best places to visit.
Now I'm going to talk about the Pike Place Market. The market is kind of between downtown and the waterfront, so it will fit in here. ;-) The Pike Place Market is a huge public market. There are different vendors there selling food, flowers, and many other products. Just be careful of the flying fish. ;-) For more info on the Pike Place Market, go here: http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/
Ok, so we have gone over Seattle Center and Downtown. Now let's talk about the Waterfront. There are a few places to check out
Seattle Aquarium - The Seattle Aquarium is a great place to visit. There are a lot of cool things to check out. There are different admission packages to get into the Aquarium. For all the info, go to their website at: http://www.seattleaquarium.org But, for basic admission, it will cost $9.75 for Adults (19-64), $7 Youth (6-18), and $5 Child (3-5). Ye Old Curiosity Shop - This is a great store that is always s a fun place to visit. Not only will you find a lot of cool stuff to buy, you will also see some pretty interesting stuff. If you are down by the waterfront, make sure you check out this store. For more info, go here: http://www.yeoldecuriosityshop.com
There are also a lot of different shops and restaurants on the waterfront that you can check out.
Those are some of the main places to see in Seattle. There is more you can do inside the city, but those are some of the best places to visit.
Are you going to travel outside of Seattle when you are here? Then you might want to check out some of these places outside of Seattle.
Museum of Flight - Tukwilla If you like airplanes, make sure to check this place out. There are a lot of different planes on display and you can really learn a lot. Since Worlds is the same weekend as the Hydro Plane races in Seattle, you may also see the Blue Angels parked by the museum. The Blue Angels perform during the races. To get inside the museum, it will cost $9.50 for Adults (18-64) and $5 for Youth (5-17). Children 4 and under are free. For more info, go here: http://www.museumofflight.org/
Wild Waves/Enchanted Village - Federal Way If you want to check out a local water/amusement park, this is the place to go! A lot of fun rides including the Wild Thing. This year they are adding 10 new rides to the park, including a mad mouse type roller coaster and a water splash ride. For more info on Wild Waves/Enchanted Village, go here:
Believe it or not, the weather in Seattle in August is usually good. They are even saying that this summer we will be hotter and drier than usual. Hopefully during worlds, it will be sunny. If it is, expect a great view of Mt. Rainier.
Well, I think that is most of the things to do in the Seattle area. Of course there are more, but these are the things that stand out in my mind.
I hope all of you who are coming to Seattle for Worlds have a great time! You will like the city. Now let's just hope for some sunny weather. ;-)
