On the road again! This time for only 2 hours, not 13. Thank goodness. I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved going to the Meadowlands and all, but a 13 hour car trip (one way!) is not my idea of fun. Any how the ride to Columbus was uneventful, unless you consider a stop at the ATM and a crowded McDonalds eventful. I wouldn't. Besides, the bathroom in the McDonalds was designed terribly! There was a small passageway for the
I'm off topic.
Okay, so I got to the Veterans Memorial Hall at about 10:20 or so, donned my red tinted glasses and entered the area. It was disappointing compared to Jersey, the VMH was concrete everything, and white tablecloths instead of fun Pokémon Mats. There was also a Magic tournament going on.
Anyway, I cruised through the area, looked at people trading realized what I had forgotten. I had completely been out of time during the week to prepare, so I grabbed my deck on the way out the door (thankfully with all 60 cards intact) and forgotten cards to trade. On top of that, my deck was more of joke deck than anything else that I had constructed several months prior so I could play with Ech. Dark Golduck, Xatu(revelation), Slugma(Revelation and that Magcargo thing too), Cleffa(Promo), Smoochum all around pretty terribly constructed.
So I'm walking around and I notice a guy working on his deck, flipping through a binder. But I know this guy, so I walkup and sit down across the table from him. He looked up, I Looked at him. He stared for a moment, and then PK(for that's who it was, of course) handed me one of his nifty Gengar promos and then went back to sorting. We talked for a while, but not much, poor PKMNX was suffering from laryngitis. Then we were approached by Dug's Trio.
HAHAH! THAT'S FUNNY STUFF!!! HAHAHAH!
Yeah, but seriously Dugtrio, Saberslash and Warlord (sans zeo clothing like two other dashing devils, for shame!) came up to the conversing duo of PK and myself and introduced themselves. We hung around for a while, then PK had to go turn in his forms and we had to move so the 11-14 tourney could start. We found out that a Open Tournement was going on at 1pm that day, Swiss style( I was hoping draft rats) so we filled out registration forms for that. In the meantime, Saber and Warlord battled, and Dug and I battled( he apparently does have hands and fingers, believe it or not. But they could be prosthetic), and then me an Saber battled. I battled Saber again later in the day, and pulled off a great Dark-Dark-Dark-Dark-Psy-Psy-Gold Berry-Rocket's Hideout-Dark Golduck combo. It was cruel. We took a picture for Ech. It was fun, good times had by all. We met Tiberous and Darkcloud too during this time, and I got a Bellossom Promo from Tiberous and a Shining Mew from Darkcloud. Tiberous hung out with us for a while, but Darkcloud had to get to his matches.
One Pro for the VMH, food was cheap. No longer was the "best damn coke I've ever had" $3, but instead only $0.75. Good deal.
The the Open tourney started. It was just like the younger aged ones , Modified, just open to any age and it cost $5. I don't think I saw the same type of deck twice, there was a lot of variety. Prizes were Destiny Boosters and Pikachu World binders. Playing was a lot of fun, I had a win-lose ratio of 3:3, which wasn't so bad(granted my last opponent didn't show ) I played against a Dark Ampharos/Eeveelution Deck with Suicune, one 'Gatr deck(I was surprised about that), Blaine's Arcanine, Dark Tyranitar/Dark Dugtrio, Tyranitar/Hitmontop. I saw someone playing a really cool lightening deck with Shining Raichu, Revelation Raichu, and Rocket Zapdos. I heard that 'a Gatr deck was in the finals for 11-14, but it got taken out by someone else. Overall it was a lot of fun, a few people were playing cutthroat competition, but mostly everyone was having fun and enjoying the game, which is what I thought was really cool, no real poor sports about it.
Finally, the pairings for the top eight for the challenge were put up, and I looked around. Darkcloud had left, I haden't seen Tiberous in a while, I assume he left, PK had gone home and, now, I decided, was my chance to slip away unnoticed. No suck luck, I ran into Dug on the way out, so instead of being mysteriously gone, I explained to him that I was leaving , to tell the others bye and that I would most likely see them again.
After that, I drove away into the sunset. Which really sucked, because it was blinding and I had to wear my red glasses while I drove to cut out the glare and it made it hard to distinguish colors.
The End but don't worry Anguris will return. I hope. |
