OR Poor Butterfree!! |

My day going to, at, and coming from origins was really cool. It's a 4 hour drive from Pittsburgh (where I live) to Columbus (Where origins is), and to get there at the planned time of 12, i needed to leave by 8, and therefore indeed to get up at 7. Well, a long story short, I got up at 7:45, but was still ready by 8 (never underestimate me in a rush).1 long car drive, 2 cds of HMS Pinafore, and 1 babe movie soundtrack, my dad and I arrived at 400 North High Street, home of the Columbus convention center and Origins. My dad dropped me off, and we agreed to meet again at 4. I had my 60 ___'s Shining Dittos ready for handout and my extremely pathetic Butterfree deck ready to get some beatings, i entered Origins. Well, what can I say about origins? It's big, as is the convention center that hosts it. I quickly got lost. A helpful lady got me to registration, and i gave her a ditto. I got in the extremely long and fast moving line, got registered, and got lost again. Where were the Pokemon events? Well, after weeding through the 'helpful' origins guidebook, I found my way to convention room E, which was hosting the Pokemon events. Convention room E not only held Pokemon events, but Star Wars, Magic, Middle-Earth, Vampire, and others. Of course, I got lost. i went over to the helpful booth and signed up for the 1:00 pokemon tourney, and was on my way, still lost. I finally found the pokemon events, a drafting round for the Pokemon Professor Champs. I had not yet found a friendly face, which wasn't that hard, since the only friendly face I knew there was Pure, and then only by pictures. Not being able to find the place the modified tourney was held, I missed it and decided to content myself by signing myself up for the Pokemon arena league and walking around watching other ccg players. I watched a game between a guy and a younger girl, who i dismissed, but remembered that the girl had a Magmar and a Sneasel in play. I wandered around some more, and a little kid challenged me to play a game. In my state, I had no choice to accept, even though I was going to lose. At least now i can say I did something of worth at origins. It was a good thing I accepted that challenge, because about halfway into the game, Purity walked past! I ran up and introduced myself, and then immediately forfeited the game to the little kid. I gave him a Ditto as a consolation prize. Pure lead me over to Vash and Phat, who, by a strange coincidence, were the same guy and girl I had seen playing before. I introduced myself, and handed out my dittos. It turned out that the 3 of them were planning to head over to the buying place, so I decided to spare any more kids of winning matches and come along. The place was huge, and I quickly blew what money I had on some Legendary Collection boosters (And I pulled a Flareon!). Pure got like 6 E-Card 3 packs, the crowning achievement was when she pulled the 3-attack Tyranitar (Go pure!). we then wandered over to a cool place called rook, where they sold metal deck boxes and large deck boxes (they were heavy too, so you could take out the competition before and during the match. ("THAT'S what you get for knocking out Cleffa!"). After that, we headed over to a dice seller, where phat and I discovered the joy of FUZZY DICE!!! They were technically called 'Frosted Dice' but they were so fuzzy. We also saw a set of gold and silver dice that were REALLY cool and REALLY expensive... After that, we headed back to the event hall, where we met with Dug, Warlord, Peep, Saberslash, Lumaga, and Firefighter (I think I got all those right) Of course, they all received Dittos, and we sat down to relax. Peep pulled out a box of Legendary Collection that he got from the MTs just for about 1000 energy cards. Needless to say, it was the blessed LC Box, with the box topper being Dark Blastoise and the rare and reverse holo in the first pack being Dark Blastoise and RH Dark Dragonite. I was really mad at peep.... But it was then that I had to go, so I bid farewell to all my old/new friends and left for the 4 hour trip home. So, that's what origins was to me. fun, friends, and FUZZY DICE!!!!!!!! |
