woo! another weekend on the yugioh trading card game tour draws to a close. whew. it IS getting easier, but these 12 hour days really wear you out. this weekend as you ought to know we were in the chicago area. we saw pkmnx and we saw soslowpoke! we had a fun aquapolis draft on saturday night, i haven't drafted for absolute ages. i'd forgotten what fun it is.....we will DEFINITELY have to do it more often. we never did finish it cause we got tired and hungry, but we had fun and i got some good cards. can you beleive it, not one single crystal lugia (no crystal ANYTHING) in that entire box. :( ... there was a certain amount of 'drafting like 6 year olds' going on, as at least one pack had something that was of no use to anyone's deck but they absolutely had to have (for me it was the paralell foil tyranitar). i once again ended up drafting fire/fighting (i always seem to end up with that, or grass/psy) upon choosing a holo arcanine in my first pack. the one and only game i actually played was loads of fun, going up against gloom in a down to the diceroll match that we both really enjoyed. it was great to play pokemon again after so much yugioh.

pk had fun, he learned to play yugioh before the tour, and helped out in the training zone by playing two kids at once. then we packed him off to king of games with my deck, which served him well (he managed to win the coveted 3 games sticker) and he said he did pretty well with it in the duelist fields as well. he was happy to find a ddr machine in the arcade and occasionally showed up in a very sweaty state.

we finally managed to a) a photo booth that worked, b) get everyone together , and c) FIT everyone's head at least into the booth. we opted for the four pose photo, and it was a real test of endurance i'll tell you what, as we contorted ourselves to fit into the booth without tipping it over. we plan to do this on each tour if possible. :D

at any rate, it was a great deal of fun. again we ordered too much food for our dinners, and we need to watch that, but all in all we're having a good time after hours to make up for the long days on our feet. if we come to a stop near you try and come by and at least say hi....next week we will enjoy the splendors of the mall of america, where we will experience such diverse wonders as 'cereal adventure', two stories of legos and an octopus that can open a jar. oh, we are absolutely beside ourselves. 

and that i expect about does it. tomorrow we'll be back and a little more au courant in the pokemon world. til then, have a good day!

well, well, well.... back for the friday update again. in between packing and preparing for this week's mall stop, i get to entertain you with update insanity and the like.

so right now we're preparing to go to chicago, or more importantly, west dundee at the spring hill mall.

so as per usually, we will be there saturday and sunday, so if you're in the area make sure to come and check us out and say hi! you dont need to know anything about yu-gi-oh, as dane found out last week... but it helps if you are not anti lunch... as dane also found out.

speaking of which, we have poinko's report from last week for all your reading pleasure... and its even better now that i fixed all the inaccuracies... losing four games indeed! i only lost two! [pouts] in fact, one was to this kid whom i think stacked his deck because on turn two he had two blue eyes white dragons and a summoned skull against my open field... and then afterwards he bragged the whole night about how much i sucked. ...the poor kid after him sure got the brunt of my yugifury tho.... grrrrr....

hmm... now i dont consider myself a gamer, nor do i present myself as an authority, but honestly, i just like gamecube more than xbox and ps2. i mean nintendo has always had some cool games. sure, they have some lame ones too, but every platform does. i have always liked how innovative nintendo was. i mean remember the light gun? the power pad? classic gaming at its best. i really think that the gba/gcn thing is cool, although a gba IS a rather expensive 'peripheral'

hi there! welcome to thursday's update. not a whole heck of a lot today, oh well. there was a lot of stuff yesterday. let's see what we have....

heeeeeeeeeeeey i got aquapolis! the pokemon center got it in last night, and for whatever reason gloom called them, and they said 'yeah we got that' so of course i got up and went to the city to get some. i bought a box, and then 15 packs. the box is for this weekend in chicago, so we can do a little drafting. the 15 packs i bought with the money i got for my birthday, and then a few more because of the promo offer. i'll tell you more about that later. anyways, i got some good cards but no crystal lugia :( oh well. it gives me a reason to keep hoping. ;)

while on the subject of the pokemon center, i'll give you a little news rundown from there. when i got up to the second floor and headed over to load up my game carts at the catch em all station, john saw me and said hi. he came over to tell me aquapolis was in, and told me about this month's promotion. which is--buy 5 boosters or 5 pvc's, and get your pick of any of the store issued promo cards. (sooo....since i bought 51 boosters, i got 5 each ho oh and rapidash promos!) that runs through february 8th.

i asked about ruby/sapphire, and learned that we'll be able to reserve a copy starting next month. the store is planning to have a premium for people who reserve their copy there, so bear that in mind as you are deciding where to reserve your copy of the game. i'm probably going to reserve mine there, they've given away some pretty cool stuff in the past.

they'll be having a cool giveaway as well with the release of the 4th movie on video and dvd, so i'll keep you up on both of those as i learn more.
 
 

oh...and i've been meaning to post this for a week....those of you who won prizes in the new years contests and havent sent in your addresses, you need to do that. you can mail em in to me i guess.... purity@sugarshock.net .

Tonight in the Analyst, we have Gloom with his speculations about an up-and-coming modified deck based on Aquapolis Boost Energy and Light Dragonite - Turbo Boost! With a deck list and comments about how it may fare in today's modified environment, it's an interesting read.

In the Atelier, nova gives a tweak to a modified Lugia deck. Using Expedition Venusaur and Porygon2, it required only a small fix.

hello! pure here! i am working on the update in philadelphia, of all places. i am waiting for my plane to get home and it is nearly an hour delayed. i am sooooo tired too....the thing is, boston is only about an hour's flight from new york. on the way down here, i flew direct from white plains to boston, in a little tiny plane that had only 10 seats in it ( it was very windy out. i never knew planes could fishtail!) and it only took 53 minutes. but, going home, i flew first to philadelphia, which was an hour or more, and then now i am obligated to sit and wait for my connecting flight, which will take an hour or so, and well, i could have driven home in about the same amount of time. oh well. i don't have to walk so i won't really complain about it. all the same i should like to be home and asleep right now!

since i haven't been in contact with anyone, i don't really have any material for you...so, i will tell you about the yugioh tour some more. on this stop we got to meet dane, and bjj came by, we saw bob callahan, and wouldn't you know it marril dropped by today. (so i got to collect dane and marril's izone portraits for my card box. if you do stop by to see us on the tour, make sure i get a chancer to take your picture!!) i think marril has grown since the last time i saw him. he gave me a cd with some pictures he took, so i'll get those set up to show you. the tour was fun, and by now i know my part of the training zone instruction quite by heart, so the initial nervousness of screwing up the information is over. all the same, i am still learning to project my voice enough to be heard over the din and drone of the mall.

hmmm....some highlights of the trip this weekend were meeting mike hummel, he works at upperdeck and i had the chance to duel him friday night. i'd managed to leave my deck at home, so i borrowed gloom's. apart from an unfamiliarity of what was in it, i did pretty well. didn't manage to win, but both duels were reasonably close and it was a lot of fun. i gave almost as good as i got.;)

it was fun dueling and talking with mike, but we needed to get some sleep so i rounded up everyone and we turned in. saturday was an early day...the tour started at ten, but we had to be there at the mall at seven thirty in the morning. oh dear. it was a long long long long day, but overall successful, and since they had a boston chowda company in the food court, i got my clam chowder and lobster roll after all. haza!

after the tour closed for the night, we were all supposed to go out to eat together. however since people all had different plans, carlos gave us all applebee's gift cards and sent us away. applebees was a reasonable walk from our hotel, so we decided to go there after returning to the hotel, changing clothes, resting, making phonecalls. perhaps because i was so tired, i didn't notice anything odd in everyone else congregating in the bathroom for (upon reflection) some rather spurious reasons. what do you think--they came out of the bathroom with a 'terrifyingly huge' hello kitty mylar balloon and a card for my birthday. poinko had smuggled the balloon into the hotel by wrapping it up in lane bryant shopping bags and claiming it was a sweater for his mother. awww! that was so nice of him! after duly admiring my new balloon, we set off for the restaurant. my goodness was it ever cold. we swung by another mall that was in between us and applebees, checking out zany brainy which was liquidating itself and a really great card store. they had everything! well, everything but aquapolis, darn them. we investigated the case of yugioh singles, then headed for the pokemon display, where we spotted an assortment of pokemon rings. we inquired as to the price, and upon hearing they were only a dollar apiece, decided as a group that nothing would do but we must each get one. i took charmander, gloom went for jigglypuff, poinko of course claimed golbat and chris and ech both chose bulbasaur. equipped with our new rings we continued towards applebee's as poinko complained about the distance to the restaurant and the temperature of the parking lot. snow has lost a lot of its glamour for poinko, i'm afraid. at any rate, we reached applebee's and since there was no wait at all we were seated immediately. we looked over the menus and were pleased to see our five $25 gift cards were going to go pretty far there. we ordered 2 appetizer platters as well as our entrees, and enjoyed our free refills of coke and lemonade. about 15 minutes after the appetizer platters arrived, we realized that we had ordered WAY too much food. this is what a bounteous gift card can do to you. we really had an enormously good time, proving you can stick to soft drinks and still laugh too much in a restaurant. ah well. i took some pictures of us there and i'll put em up when i get the chance to get them off my camera. we headed back to the hotel much later, tired and too full but very happy.

sunday went a bit quicker, and since we didn't have to be there until nine o clock, we were a little better rested. i was mostly in the exodia zone area all day, but the tour seemed pretty successful, not the same size of crowds as the palisades, but then the palisades is a much larger mall.

(looks out the window, and sees her plane has finally arrived) yay! i can go home! ok, i'll finish this on board the plane.....no, i'll hurry and wrap it up now.

where was i? oh yes. well, sunday went quickly and i had to run out to the airport before the tour was over. gloom has gone home, and poink chris and ech will return tomorrow morning. i'll try and get marril's and my pics up tomorrow, but for now i will bid you all good night, and sorry the update was nothing but yugioh in boston, but i should have some more interesting things for you tomorrow. hey at least we updated --which is a step above last week, hey? see you tomorrow! l

well, since by now everyone seems to know aquapolis has shipped, i guess there's no harm in me putting that bit of news up here. on to today's card!

well! let's see what we have for you today. hmmm.....well, i can continue the yu gi oh tour saga....would you like that? if so, read on, if not, skip down. how convenient is that?

now! the tour started at ten but we had to be at the mall by seven thirty. waaah! nothing for it but to get up at fivethirty, to get everyone through the shower and ready to go. ugh. anyways, we shook ourselves up and got downstairs in time to be transported to the mall, where we ran wild and free looking for our areas. the exodia training zones were up on the fourth floor, so i helped kat carry the table linens up and get our area ready to go. maggie and tony and poink were there, and we got our oversized cards, play mat, and starter decks ready to go. then we ran through our training scripts a few times, and got ready to start. the event opened at ten for registration and duelist fields, but the training zone didnt start til eleven. at eleven, a large group of 7-8 year olds turned up, they were from hastings and there in response to my having told one of their mothers about the tour. so it was pretty cool to see them there. we ran a training session once every 45 minutes, giving a lecture on gameplay using oversized cards, and then going around their tables and answering questions and watching how they did. it's a pretty fun job, the one real downside is......

i have to wear pants! khaki pants, even! it was terrible hard to find some that fit....even so these don't fit perfectly (drawback to off the rack i suppose) but they just feel...weird!

you can get a nice look at the jumbo cards too and our keen duelist leader shirts. they look nice! people keep trying to buy them from us. i have a small, but it's still too big. oh well. anyways, we ran training sessions until it was time to stop. then....it was off to the pokemon center! poinko could barely contain his excitement. vash was nice enough to borrow a van in which to fit us all, and drive us into manhattan. it was a long trip due to traffic, but he got us there all right. poink took pictures of the zubat, the employees, the animatronics, pretty much everything. guess who was waiting there for us? dr. ashtear! it was great to see him again, and he gave me a really fabulous book on japanese embroidery for a christmas present. it's a really beautiful and well detailed book. soon as i can decide on an appropriate project and purchase my supplies i'm going to learn how to do it. earlier in the week i'd planned to go eat someplace in the city....but i hadn't reckoned on how absolutely drained i'd feel by the end of the event. now i understand why mtm never seemed up to doing anything after an event. :D anyways, i felt bad cause of dr. ashtear waiting all that time, but i reaaally needed to get to bed. so, everybody bought some things and then it was time to head back to the hotel. we drove through mcdonalds, got back to the hotel and i just crashed. hehe.

eric's no slacker either, he passed on a bit of info on the new advanced series of cards. it appears that once again, mcdonald's in japan is doing a promotion of pokemon cards, this time with the newest look. they'll start on january 17th, and if you'd like a peek, then check out this very nice graphic that eric prepared......

WOW i think this is the longest zeo's ever gone without an update since we opened. @_@! in all the rushing around to get ready to start the new job, zeo was left without an updater. we've got it under control for next weekend, though, so no fear. at the very LAST MINUTE ech got on the tour, so he wasn't able to update, and since i don't have a dialup i couldn't update, so.....there it is. aaaanyways, sorry to leave you all dangling like that, but my goodness did things get busy. so! want to hear a quick rundown of what we did? if yes, keep reading this section. if no, skip to the part under the line! :D

the weekend of course got started early, like, wednesday with gloom's arrival. then we got jolt and megs on thursday, and ran the webcam for a bit. if you like seeing people sit on a couch and play videogames, then you probably enjoyed the show! anyways, thursday night was also a tense one as it looked like ech wasn't going to be with us after all, due to some paperwork problems. however, around midnight he got a call saying he was booked on a flight leaving in about six hours. he had to scramble about rather quickly at that point but he got some clothes and things into a bag and ready to go.

i headed to bed then like a sensible human being who had a full full day ahead of her the next day, but i understand the rest of em were playing resident evil in my living room til 4 am. needless to say when i came out the next morning at ninethirty, they were sprawled about looking significantly worse for wear. tsk, tsk. i did a few things then decided it was high time they got up. for the most part they just continued to lie about in a torpid state, but the prospect of pancakes, bacon, and eggs got them perked up enough to start playing animal crossing. -_- well it was a start. got everyone rounded up and clean and fed and packed, and we headed to spring valley, ny, where those of us who were on the tour were staying. we got there in pretty good time, and upon exiting the car were greeted vigorously by poinko, who announced his presence by running up to jolt out of the blue, picking him bodily off the ground and waving him about. (jolt is easily six feet tall, so that was a pretty neat trick.) i understand he did the same with several others. i checked in, got us our rooms, sent megs and jolt off to the mall and went to our training session. this lasted a few hours, then after ech finally arrived we headed to the mall to get some food and take jolt back to the train. then it was time to get back to the hotel, get some sleep, and be ready for the next day, when the tour would OFFICIALLY BEGIN!!!
